Default How to S-off and Root Evo 4G (& more) Gingerbread 2.3.3 and Hboot 2.16.00

Wilfed has already posted that this root was available but I have been asked to write instructions on how to do it so here goes. The following phones are supported by this program.
Revolutionary currently supports the following Android phones and HBOOT versions:
Ok I updated guide for pre4

    ■HTC Desire (bravo) 0.93.0001, 1.02.0001
    ■HTC Desire CDMA (bravoc) 1.06.0000
    ■HTC Wildfire (buzz) 1.01.0001
    ■HTC Aria (liberty) 1.02.0000
    ■HTC Incredible S (vivo) 1.09.0000 and 1.13.0000
■HTC Droid Incredible 2 (vivow) 0.97.0000 (Gingerbread only!)
    ■HTC Desire S (saga) 0.98.0000 and 0.98.0002
    ■HTC View (express) 1.09.0000 and 1.13.0000
    ■HTC Flyer (flyer) 1.10.0000, 1.11.0003
    ■HTC Sensation (pyramid) 1.17.0006, .0008, .0011 and .0012, 1.18.0000
    ■HTC Evo 3D (shooter) 1.30.0000 and 1.40.0000
    ■HTC EVO 3D GSM (shooteru) 1.49.0007
    ■HTC Thunderbolt (mecha) 1.04.0000, 1.05.0000
    ■HTC EVO 4G (supersonic) 2.16.0001
    ■HTC myTouch Slide 4G (doubleshot) 1.44.0007
Revolutionary will permanently unlock NAND write protection by default on the following phones:

    ■HTC Sensation (pyramid)
    ■HTC Evo 3D (shooter)
    ■HTC EVO 3D GSM (shooteru)
    ■HTC myTouch Slide 4G

First download these fastboot drivers and install them on your PC then reboot.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Then download revolutionary [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
at which point you will get a pop up window requesting which OS and phone you are using.Leave this window open because you will soon need to enter your serial # there.

Extract revolutionary to a folder like c:\revolutionary
Hook up your HTC phone with USB debugging enabled.
Bring up a command prompt in windows...Click on Start Then Run and type CMD
    then enter.
then cd c:\revolutionary if thats the directory you extracted it to
    type revolutionary then hit enter
It should see your device and give you the serial number and ask you for the key
Go back to the popup window and enter your serial # and it will then give you the key
    to enter...
Enter that key in revolutionary in your cmd prompt and the program will run.

It should take about 1 minute to run and then you will see your device reboot into Hboot menu and will still have S-On.

Then it will reboot again into Hboot and you will have S-off ...It will also create a recovery partition on your phone.

Once all of it is done you will then have S-off but not technically root yet..

    If you want ROOT also:
goto this link [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    and download su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip

Put that file on the root of your microsd card by whatever means you use.
Power off phone with microsd card contaning the file in the phone.
Boot into Hboot by holding VOL+DWN and then hold power button for 1 sec..
the phone should boot into Hboot ...scroll dwn to restore by using VOL DWN then hit power to select recovery.

Once in recovery choose Install zip from sd card scroll the the su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip and select it with pwr button then scroll to yes install it and hit power to select it...after its done flashing tell it to reboot the phone and now your phone is rooted.

I hope this clears up any confusion,,I thought it was pretty self explanitory but here is the help you need

P.S. you may also want to install BusyBox from the market.

hey. It worked awsome for me! BUT When I get to the recovery part where I need to flash the zip file. It tells me the zip file is a bad image. What can I do to fix this? Could I just install the Superuser app from the market?

    Thanks,
    Mike

EDIT: Figured it out. For some off reason the file has to be renamed to something shorter. After that it worked fine. Thank you SO MUCH!!!!!
