If changing the APN settings is the only thing they are having problem with than why don't they just use the iphone configuration utility. You can add provisioning profiles with APN settings you need and then the program encrypts and signs the profile then installs it to the iphone. If that's all that is needed for MMS than wouldn't Iphone configuration utility work? I have a verizon iphone 4 working on cricket with talk and partial text. I can text to any carrier but only receive from cricket users

I would recommend contacting an Admin of the forum that is giving you that message. I've verified all gurus links in this thread are functional. So it's not on our end.
