AT&T today said it plans to roll out its next-generation video platform later this year, though DirecTV Now customers can get an early taste of some of the best features. DirecTV Now allows people to stream live TV to their mobile device, PC, or TV over the internet. AT&T mobile customers can stream DirecTV Now shows to their handset without impacting their data plan. AT&T's new television platform will, like DirecTV Now, be software based rather than hardware based, and that means it will be more accessible across devices. AT&T says the cloud DVR will be available to select DirecTV Now customers later this summer. It will let people record shows and watch 4K and HD shows from virtually anywhere. AT&T says its service has up to 30,000 on-demand titles. Other features on the way include live TV pausing and parental controls. AT&T expects to debut its new television platform before the end of the year. Looking ahead, AT&T will add user profiles, downloadable content, and 4K HDR in 2018.
