Verizon prepaid allows byod (Bring your own device) in general for almost any clean esn Verizon phone, whether prepaid or postpaid. The recent expansion of the once limited Verizon prepaid plan options have added Android, Blackberries and other Smartphones (but no Winmo) to their repertoire.

Currently there are two types of Verizon prepaid plans, well three if you want to be picayune.

1)Daily plans. Pay by the day. Flat rate per day. The more you pay the more you get.
99 cents gets you unlimited mobile to mobile and 10 cents for all other call for example Charged only on days used.

2)Monthly plans. These are new. They mimic the regular postpaid plans on Verizon's contract side but are $5 more and charge you 20 cents a minute for roaming.

3)Paygo. 25 cents a minute. Tying with Att gophone for most expensive standard flat minute rate in the biz.

Data. There are daily options and monthly options.
1) 99 cents a day unlimited wap. Available only for non smartphones/non touchscreens and non html devices.
2)Unlimited 3G data. $30 a month. For any and all smartphones.
3)25 megs for 9.99. For any and all "feature phones".

Plan number 3 is bs.

Verizon also has a special trial 49.99 unlimited talk/text/mms plan available only in some 11 Southeastern states till October 8. Supposedly by invite only but you can social engineer a sympathetic CS by saying you're going to move to one of the lucky 11 or just give them an address from those states. (Google it).

This plan allows byod only for Verizon prepaid devices, non smartphones/non html/non touchscreens.

In general, Verizon prepaid byod is split into two. The monthly plans allow any Verizon phone with a clean esn (except Windows Mobile). The daily/paygo only allows non smartphones, non touchscreens and non html browser types.

Verizon prepaid is overpriced but has several attractive points. The 49.99 trial unlimited talk/text /mms plan. The unlimited messaging for $20 a month. Unlimited wap at 99 cents a day.

Their monthly plans are overshadowed by their lower priced mvno cousins like Page Plus and others.

Verizon prepaid is not generally a good deal but if you want unlimited data and the coverage of the nation's largest single cdma network in one package, they are the only game in town.

Verizon Prepaid has killed the 49.99 unlimited talk/text trial down South. Only those grandfathered in now have it. It was available only in 11 states till early October and only for non smartphones/non html devices.

Verizon prepaid allows Blackberries (recent ones), Android and Web OS devices. Currently, Windows Mobile and Palm OS devices are not supported.

Verizon prepaid makes my shortlist of Verizon based networks for byod. With four mvnos dead for different reasons , basically Verizon prepaid is the only option for unlimited 3G data for the Verizon prepaid network along with byod.

H20 cdma/Verizon and Page plus are the other two alternatives.
