Need help fixing an iphone 4 please!!

OK, this is what happened....

My brother owns an i phone 4 that was running 4.0.1 and was jail-broken and unlocked.
He then decided to reset in from within the phones settings options.
The reset that he performed on it was the "reset all data and settings" option.
Now the phone is stuck at the apple screen and all my attempts to get it going again have failed.
Ive tried restoring it to 4.0.1, 4.0.2 and 4.1 while the phone is in recovery mode and DFU mode.
Both error-ed out with a 3194 error. I have searched to no avail on Google for hours now, and
have found nothing that helps.
So i am asking my fellow Gurus for a little help
