Google today unveiled a new feature in Google Search called Destinations. The idea is to make it easier for people to discover new places and plan visits. People need only add the word "destinations" or "vacations" to their searches for general geographic areas, such as cities, states, or countries, and Google will automatically reveal points of interest, nearby hotels, and the flights needed to get there. Results are updated in real time as users pan around the map. Adding keywords for certain activities, such as surfing or skiing, will help refine results. A filter allows users to search by date, as well, and can reveal the differences in fares and rates for flights and hotels as they change throughout the year. The Destinations tool helps people discover what local weather is like year round, and can provide details about when the spot is most and least crowded with tourists and visitors. Destinations can also help people prioritize their itineraries based on the number of days they'll be traveling by suggesting the top places to visit in any given area. Destinations will be available through the Google Search mobile app in the days ahead.
