Updated on 1-23-2016 by Lulu Chang:- Proving that we really are a nation of dog lovers, just a day after its launch, Exploding Kittens has become top paid application in the Apple App Store.-Just another line to add to the game’s already impressive résumé, which includes being the most-backed game in Kickstarter’s history and the campaign with the single greatest number of backers. Despite the fact that the current mobile version of the game is somewhat limited in functionality (you can’t play it by yourself, period — you’ve gotta find others to play with you via an ad hoc connection),-people are clearly falling over themselves to get the game on their phones. Part of the rush to get the game early may be due to the fact that all in-app purchases are free for the next couple days, and of course, there are extra decks available on the digital version that don’t exist in the physical game. Plus, there are avatars with voices in the Exploding Kittens app, which is apparently everyone’s dream come true. Developers have urged players to stay patient if they find the app to be a bit buggy (hey, it’s still new!), and Android users will soon have a version for themselves to play as well. Original post: The game that once alarmed feline fiends everywhere is now ready to reach an even larger audience — on mobile. Exploding Kittens, a card game that somehow managed to become the most-backed game in Kickstarter history as well as the campaign with the most number of backers, ever, is now an app. According to the game’s website, the “award winning, best selling, friendship ruining, table flip card game” created by- The-Oatmeal founder Matthew Inman, along with-Elan Lee and Shane Small, can be downloaded on the App Store. And as an added bonus, for the next few days, all in-app purchases are free, because you absolutely must get the new party pack expansion deck and “a ton of lovely avatars.” Seriously, what are you waiting for? Effectively a form of-Russian Roulette, players draw cards from the delightful deck, trying to avoid the Exploding Kitten card. If this fateful card is selected, the player who drew it “explodes” and is forced out of the game — unless, of course, he or she is in possession of a defuse card that will allow you to place the Exploding Kitten back into the master deck. Rather, for $1.99, you can download the app and play anytime, anywhere. The app allows for “local multiplayer gameplay with two to five players across multiple phones,” but sorry, super fans: You can’t actually play across the Internet. That said, if you and your friends want to connect your iPhones by way of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, you can play together to your hearts’ content. You also have the option of purchasing an NSFW version of the game, and the digital version does have a few additional features that the original card game lacks. So if you’re looking for your next great game night adventure, look no further than the Apple App Store.
