Since 2012, Google has released a tablet alongside its Nexus phones. It began with the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 10, which debuted in 2012 with Android Jelly Bean. The huge popularity of the budget-friendly Nexus 7 led it to receiving a refresh in 2013. Last year, the company brought a more premium tablet to the market-— the Nexus 9. While it was a more premium offering, the Nexus 9 was riddled with issues, such as backlight bleed and build quality. Whether or not if it was a result of that, Google skipped-2015 for a-Nexus tablet when it launched the Nexus 5X and 6P, but a Nexus 7 2016 refresh could be coming soon. According to a Weibo post, work on the-2016 Nexus 7-has begun, but an OEM hasn’t been determined yet. Huawei still wants to continue as Google’s surgeon.” So far, Asus made the Nexus 7 2012 and 2013 variants, Samsung made the Nexus 10, and HTC made the Nexus 9. Seeing as LG made the 5X and Huawei made the 6P, Google could be looking to its more recent OEM partners to manufacture the Nexus 7 2016. It’s also likely that the Nexus 7 2016 will remain a budget-friendly device and retain its 7-inch size, just like previous variants. We don’t have much information on the Nexus 7 at this stage, and the report we do have is from an unknown, unverified source, so take the rumors with a hefty dose of salt. In September, Google unveiled that the team behind the Chromebook was working on a 10.2-inch tablet-— the Pixel C. Like the Nexus 9, the Pixel C is not a budget tablet. Priced at $500 for the 32GB version, it comes with a keyboard that converts it into a laptop, but it will set you back $150. The device is being targeted as a-laptop replacement, but it was hard to recommend based on-our short time with it. Google hasn’t shown that Android is ready for a laptop environment, either, what with multi-window mode still in its experimental stage.
