Hey. I have a customer who brought in his laptop and was using the older Cricket broadband modem on it. Well, he put in the modem before running the installation from the CD. Is there a way to reverse this so we can get the modem installed?

You can disable the modem in start/control panel/system/hardware/device manager/modems/(modem name). Device manage, click on check mark to the right of Use this device(Enable). Should open a link below to disable modem. May be able to just update driver in modem here. Select box to look for cd in drives. This works for XP,vista & 7 have a little differrent way to find things.
Instead of disabling, you should uninstall the driver that was assigned to it. Same process just instead of Disable you choose Uninstall and then remove the device.
1) Uninstall Driver
2) Remove Device from System
3) Install software update
4) Insert Device into System
That's what I normally do when I'm having issues with a piece of hardware.

if it is um100,just run the cd to install quicklink mobile and when prompted plug the device in (not before) and give it a few minutes to locate and install, dont get in a rush, can take 3 or 4 minutes ,but it doesnt matter if you plug it in first ,just unplug it before you run the disk.also this modem will only work with xp or earlier.there is an update for vista/7 but not many of them got it. i got it somewhere,if you need smitty i will try and find it for ya. but it doesnt matter with that particular modem to plug it before, windows will choose the best suited driver (the one off the cd) for it. i have sold and installed many of these and it has never made any difference.
