OnePlus, makers of the OnePlus One smartphone, could have a spin-off version in the works. If rumors are correct, it’ll be another entry into the popular “Mini” version trend. Rumors have been gathering for a while, with the phone referred to as both the OnePlus Mini and the OnePlus X. Here’s everything we think we know about the phone. Updated on 10-16-2015 by Andy Boxall: Added in leaked details on the OnePlus X’s possible price. OnePlus teases October 29 launch for the X OnePlus is famous for its social media strategy and the slick way it teases phone launches, but it’s been rather quiet about the OnePlus Mini AKA the OnePlus X. See you October 29, London. #PowerfullyBeautiful pic.twitter.com/JxS5YQviPX — OnePlus (@oneplus) October 14, 2015 In mid-October, OnePlus finally sent out its first big teaser for the OnePlus X via social media. In the teaser image, you simply see an X in white neon in a black room with the tagline, “See you October 29.” The caption says that the event will take place in London, and OnePlus is using the hashtag #PowerfullyBeautiful. Could this image reveal the OnePlus X name? Earlier on in October, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau posted a cryptic message to his Weibo social network account, along with a screenshot of a map with an X-shaped route on it. The translated message says something about running “an X,” leading speculators to wonder if the next OnePlus phone will be named the OnePlus X, rather than the OnePlus Mini. The X name seems confirmed by the latest teaser. How much will it cost? The OnePlus 2 costs $330 or $390, depending on how much internal storage space you want, so how much will the OnePlus X cost, when and if it goes on sale? According to @Leaksfly on the Chinese social network Weibo, the OnePlus X will be priced at 1400 yuan in China, which equates to around $220. Soon afterward the Weibo posting, online phone store OppoMart put up, and quickly removed, a sales page for the OnePlus X. The 16GB phone shown had a price of $250 attached. The specs were similar to those already leaked, with a 5-inch 1080p screen and a Snapdragon 801 processor inside. A new design spotted in leaked pics OnePlus phones have a distinctive style, and earlier on, it seemed that the Mini or OnePlus X may borrow from the OnePlus One’s design. Now, it appears that may not be the case. Recently, a Weibo user leaked images from the TENAA database, which may offer our best look yet at the device. The edges of the phone appear to be rounded and the overall design looks more generic than previous OnePlus phones. Of course, it’s unclear whether this actually is the new OnePlus Mini. Weibo Weibo Weibo The leaked images from last year don’t give much away, and the phone looks very similar to the OnePlus One. Without the One phone to compare it, it’s hard to judge if we’re looking at a device with a half-inch smaller display. The rear panel reveals a noticeably different camera housing, and a single LED flash mounted beneath the lens. It’s also expected to sport a removable plastic back so users can easily change the color. Another leak from G4Games hinted that Style Swap covers may still be available for the Mini. Mid-range specs A number of spec leaks have popped up over the past few months, and most agree that the OnePlus Mini will have mid-range specs. An October G4Games report hinted at a 13-megapixel Sony camera with PDAF (phase-detection autofocus) and EIS (electronic image stabilization). Front-facing speakers may also be included, along with some kind of Force Touch capabilities. The report also repeats the same specs that were mentioned in-this earlier post-from the site. The GforGames report is based on a prototype that is only a couple of months old, so these specs might change again before the official release. Regardless, the sources say the OnePlus Mini will sport a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels). The display may be covered with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3 or 4 and feature an oleophobic and hydrophobic coating. OnePlus will reportedly pack a-MediaTek Helio X10 (MT6795T) processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage into the device. Previous rumors indicated that the OnePlus Mini would have dual cameras on the back, however this new report says to expect only a 13-megapixel Sony IMX258 at the rear. The lens will supposedly feature an aperture of f/2.0 and be able to record 4K video at 30 frames per second. The front-facing camera is expected to be a wide-angle 5-megapixel lens capable of recording video at 1080p. Related: -OnePlus sells 500,000 phones, makes only a small amount of profit on each one Rounding out the specs could be a 3,000 – 3,100mAh battery, though an October leak on Weibo, which included TENAA images and some specs, mentioned a 2,450mAh battery. Other possible specs include: USB Type-C with Quick Charge 2.0, an FM radio, Bluetooth 4.1, IR blaster, a 1.2W front-facing speaker, an IP67 dust and waterproof rating, -NFC, and a fingerprint sensor on the back plate. Back in December 2014, Gizmochina reported that the OnePlus Mini will have a decidedly non-mini 5-inch display, and be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor. That’s one of the company’s new 64-bit octa-core chips, which was recently announced inside the super-slim Vivo X5 Max smartphone. The OnePlus Mini could have an 8-megapixel camera on the front and the rear, plus Android 4.4.4 KitKat is currently expected to be the operating system.
