Apple today said it has purchased a startup called VocalIQ. The U.K.-based firm has been working on artificial intelligence and human-computer interactions. Its software employs deep learning to help computers speak in a more natural way by taking cues from their interactions with humans. Adding VocalIQ's technologies to its own could help Apple improve the way Siri responds to and interacts with iPhone owners. Siri is Apple's voice-activated personal assistant. Apple confirmed the acquisition, but did not say what it intends to do with VocalIQ.
