ten0rplaya04: I saw a couple of threads where people said they had formatted to install xp but it came up with a bootloader error apparently due to the fact that win 7 uses a different bl than xp. That made me leery of trying that. At the same time microsuck's forums said it would work. Im just scared to risk going from win 7 to a blinking box. lol

Well, the boot loader from Windows 7 should be completely gone if you've formatted the hard drive. The thing that would stop the computer from loading windows xp would be the BIOS. BIOS has been around FOREVER and it shouldn't interfere with loading an older OS like XP. Windows 7 and Vista should have the same boot loader and plenty of people have downgraded from Vista (including myself). What I'll do is I'll try rebooting this Toshiba I have layin around. I upgraded it with Windows 7 and it's time to put it back to XP. I'll get back to you if I have any issues (Should be doing this Saturday)

A Retail (or Student) disk shouldn't have that issue. If it's an HP disk then yea, I can see it, but that's why you need the Retail version of XP.

how new is the computer? if you are running a sata HD of course the win xp install disk is going to BSOD you must have a sata driver because windows xp doesnt recignze sata. your best move would be to install windows 7 and then emulate xp through it if that is not good enough then try this [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] slipstream a windows xp install disk with the sata driver using Nlight
