Silent Circle today introduced two new "workhorses of the future." The Blackphone 2 smartphone improves the hardware significantly compared to the first generation Blackphone. It has a 5.5-inch full HD screen protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The device has a 64-bit octa-core processor with 3GB of RAM. It features a 3,060mAh battery, microSDXC memory card support, QuickCharge 2.0, and PrivatOS. PrivatOS 11.1 brings with it Silent Spaces, Enterprise Space, and Personal Space to keep data cotainered and protected. The OS also supports traditional mobile device management tools. The company has a mobile app store on deck for later this year, but it will only be accessible through company-controlled storefronts. The latest version of PrivatOS will push to the first-generation Blackphone beginning next week, but Silent Circle didn't say exactly when the Blackphone 2 will arrive. The company also revealed the Blackphone+, a 7-inch tablet that runs the same platform and services. More details about the tablet will emerge later this year. Prices were not discussed.
