Quest Visual today announced that Google has purchased its Word Lens application. Word Lens, which is available to both Android and iOS, translates text in realtime when viewed through a smartphone camera. Word Lens explained in a blog post that it will become a part of Google's language translation team. The Word Lens apps and associated feature packs have been made free while Word Lens transitions to Google. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Google Translate is already fairly powerful when it comes to deciphering languages. Adding the ability to do on-screen in real-time would be a big boost to Google's offering.
