Nvidia is refocusing the efforts of its mobile chip business and will no longer place a priority on smartphones and tablets. Instead, reports The Wall Street Journal, Nvidia will focus on creating chips for gaming devices. Nvidia believes its roots in the gaming industry and enhancing 3D gameplay are its best strengths. The company saw limited success with its Tegra 3 and Tegra 4 mobile processors, which were used in some smartphone and tablet designs. On the whole, however, Nvidia has done little to take business away from more established smartphone processor players such as Qualcomm, Broadcom, Intel, MediaTek, and Marvell. Nvidia will still create chips for Android-based devices like its own Shield product, but will put more effort into dedicated gaming units rather than smartphones or tablets.
