MasterCard today announced MasterPass, a new, secure way to make payments within mobile applications. Similar to the mobile payment solution recently announced by Visa, MasterCard's MasterPass stores user credit card credentials in the cloud. App developers embed MasterPass capability and consumers can then make purchases with one click. The app retrieves the customer's payment info through the cloud, which means users don't need to enter their credit card information each time they want to make a purchase from their phone. MasterCard already has several app vendors on board, including Forbes Digital Commerce, Fat Zebra, MLB Advanced Media, NoQ, and Starbucks Australia. MasterCard said MasterPass will be made available to developers and merchants beginning in the second quarter of the year.
