A new study published by the Pew Research Center finds that some developing nations are fast catching up to the United States when it comes to using mobile devices and social media. Over half of those surveyed have a cellphone, compared to 91 percent of American adults, but the numbers vary wildly when it comes to smartphones. The U.S. still leads the way in Internet adoption, with 85 percent of the population now online, but a social media saturation point means that developing countries, where some social networks are still relatively new, are using them at much higher rates. As much as 73 percent of Americans use social media sites like Twitter and Facebook, the same number as Brazil, but Turkey, Russia and especially Egypt have all surpassed the U.S. in their use.
