Unveiled Wednesday at a special event in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Motorola's Moto G, a premium smartphone handset with an entry-level price, will retail for just $179 without a contract, yet offers specs that will give most mid-tier handsets serious competition. As well as a 720p 4.5-inch display, which Motorola claims offers an as good if not better viewing experience as the latest iPhone, the Moto G comes with Android 4.3 pre-installed -- and will be getting the 4.4 KitKat upgrade in January -- and is powered by a quad-core processor. Motorola says that the purpose of the handset is to provide consumers in emerging markets with an affordable alternative to handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy SIV but without robbing them of the full potential of Android and its apps ecosystem. And while the company chose Brazil for the handset's launch, the phone will not be confined to Latin America.
