Facebook has joined the GSMA, which is the global organization that oversees the interests of the mobile and wireless telecommunication industry. "Joining GSMA reflects our focus on mobile and our continued desire to work closely and collaboratively with partners in the industry, and we look forward to playing an active role as a member," said Facebook spokesperson Dan Rose in a statement to FierceWireless. The company said it hopes to maintain a tight alignment with wireless network operators around the world, as well as gain a better understanding of the issues facing the wireless industry. Facebook, the online social network, has made developing mobile products and services a priority. Earlier this year, it introduced Facebook Home, a home screen replacement for Android smartphones, as well as a dedicated Facebook phone in the HTC First. Facebook does not yet belong to CTIA, which is the U.S. wireless lobbying organization, nor do any other social networks belong to the GSMA.
