Nokia will retain its brand and patents, but license them to Microsoft. Microsoft has recently moved to refocus itself on devices and services; this move advances that goal for the mobile devision and Windows Phone. Stephen Elop will move to Microsoft. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2014, subject to shareholders and regulatory approval.
