HTC initiated the talks that led to its patent truce with Apple, reports the Wall Street Journal. According to the Journal's sources, HTC contacted Apple after losing two separate U.S. International Trade Commission cases, which found Apple's products did not infringe on HTC's patents, but that HTC's products did infringe on Apple's patents. Terms of the licensing agreement were not provided, but the Journal says the monetary value is high enough that it is likely to affect HTC's profits in the coming quarters. HTC's smartphone business has struggled to halt a decline in marketshare around the world.
