is there any way to unlock and erase sprint software from an htc hero flashed to cricket?

root & titanium back up and restore. The free version will work for just removing the apps. Of course this assumes you mean the Sprint apps like nascar, sprint tv etc.

For root z4 root will work or any of the other methods for the older hero.
