Judge Puts the Kibosh on Apple's Android Data Grab

The judge overseeing Apple's lawsuit against Motorola over Android patents has blocked Apple's attempt to score information about how Google developed the Android platform. "The motion is vague and overbroad and Motorola's objections are persuasive," wrote U.S. Circuit Judge Richard A. Posner. "If Apple desires a further court order compelling production of data within the scope of the March 5 order, it will have to narrow its request to a manageable and particularized set of documents." The two companies are locked in battle regarding smartphone patents, with back-to-back trials scheduled to commence in early June. Posner originally ruled that Apple could access some of the data, but decided Apple's subsequent request reached too far.
