Apple has reached out to several of its smartphone competitors in attempts to settle some of the on-going, patent-based litigation facing the company, reports Dow Jones. Dow Jones's sources say that Apple offered terms, which included settlements in exchange for royalty payments and licensing fees, to Motorola Mobility and Samsung. Apple requested its competitors to pay between $5 and $15 per handset to license some of its patents, says one Nasdaq source, which amounts to 1% to 2.5% of net sales. Last month, Motorola indicated that it wanted 2.5% of device sales in royalty fees from Apple, too. So far, none of Apple's competitors have agreed to Apple's settlement terms. None of the companies involved commented on the Dow Jones story, but it reports that discussions between the players are on-going.
