Can sopa and pipa (the government) shut down cydia and installous and other free downloading softwares alikeThe answer is technically yes! But the really long answer is, they wouldn't shut them down per say, they would cause so much problem for the site the site would no longer operate, problems would include, hosting, search engine appearance, advertising (fund raising), and a whole lot more. Basically they would go after the big guys that helps the little guy exist.
Any site, forum, blog, fileshare, etc. that would include even one link to a pirated, copied, file, instructions to do so, etc would be affected. So in the long run, that would affect the giants like google and yahoo, and us little guys. While it was booted for now, it will pop up again in the future so please call, write, txt your congressmen and voice your opinions on it. Every voice counts.

just fyi,all that would do if passed (besides making a war) is it will cause everything to be hosted in other country's far away from the reach of our government, sending our dollars overseas, again, and giving them an excuse to pry into our private lives to see if we are possesing or dl'ing anything which we should have purchased, filling the courts and prisons and keeping our gov't in the money but our peeps out of it.
its quite retarted if you ask me.
