So Ive been researching and doing things for days now and I still cant figure this out. I honestly think Ive ****ed things up for myself because I gave myself a toy with immense power and did some things I shouldnt have. But thats hardly the point now. Rather, Im trying to figure out how to fix it and make things normal again.

I have a palm pre I wanted on cricket so my girlfriend could have a better phone. Read up on the guides, downloaded the rom's, edited some files, got things going and ready to roll.

So. The process went something like this.

Downloaded PalmPre_Rom_qinray_1.0.3.treo8 rom.
Installed rom
Booted up, got profile using wifi
Developer mode enabled
USB passthrough enabled
Loaded into QXDM/QPST - got my SPC
(heres where things get interesting)

updated PRL to new cricket PRL
(then I got cocky)
Updated to 1.4.5 WebOS
Everything seemed to work fine, but in QXDM the MEID/ESN were off. So I ran the script again.

And thats where I ****ed myself (methinks). I wrote over some of the memory addresses from 1.4.5 using the old locations from 1.0.3.

Now the Pre is stuck. I cant NVedit ANYTHING in QXDM, as all of the ESN/MEID things are stuck in read-only and I cant fix any of them. Wont let me write to those locations no matter WHAT rom Im in.

Now my question is this - can I get those back? A bunch of WebOS Doctor restores from 1.0.3 to 1.3.5 to 1.4.1 and nothing seems to be fixed.

So I guess I need a COMPLETE NVitem back up...but the problem is, I dont have one because Im dumb and didnt make one. Can I get someone else's pre and do a backup from that? Can I download one online from some nice awesome person that could make one and send it to me?

I guess in the long run Im not THAT hosed, as its just a backup phone, but in the end, I DID want it to be a WORKING backup phone, not just a half-assed PDA.

So, any information would be awesome, as Im gonna be posting this on a NUMBER of other forums.

Thanks for all of the help.

"And thats where I ****ed myself (methinks). I wrote over some of the memory addresses from 1.4.5 using the old locations from 1.0.3."

and you hit the nail on the head when you said u need to restore the nv to your phone. that will fix it for u.

i have about 40 of them here, but am a little bakced up today,so if u cant find someone to dump nv's for you i will do it for you but cant get to it until tomorrow.

That would be awesomely awesome. Really, if I restore the NV items to their proper place, it should fix everything - theoretically? I guess my main issue, is just HOW to restore them properly? Using a tool like CDMA workshop (not changing anything ILLEGAL - just fixing the nvitems), I could, or should I manually go back through and replace everything in QXDM?

I just want this phone to go back to normal, so I can get back to using it properly.

Rich,

Thanks a lot for uploading that file, and it looks good. However, in my current version of CDMA WS, when I try and write the file, it says that the file is "not a valid NV items backup file".

I have a backup, obviously messed up from my own messings. Can I just merge the values in and hope everything is okay? or...?

Youve been an immense help, and this goes a long way.

well sometimes when we dl nv files our pc's add to them or take away from them making them invalid, the top of the file should look exactly like this

[NV items]
[Complete items - 444, Items size - 128]

00000 (0x0000) - OK
5C E8 72 80 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

and should be in .txt format if you dl'd in rar u will have to unpack first before u can use.if it still doesnt work for u i will post theactual nv's here u can just copy and paste into notepad

I think the problem is my version of CDMA WS is 2.7 and the NVitems are only 4 digits long, rather than the 5 that 3.5+ seems to give. The problem is, I only have the demo of CDMA 3.5, where I can read a full backup fine, but I cannot write that backup back, as I havent (and really cant afford to) paid the $99 license fee.

I have the full NVitem backup that you gave me and comparing it to my current backup, yeah, I can see a lot is altered.

I assume youre using CDMA WS 3+ to run the backup correct? I think thats where IM personally screwed - Using 2.7, Im gonna have to go back through and edit each intro 0 out, so that it fits what CDMA WS 2.7 wants for NV items.

oh i c yes u need a paid version of ws.

ANy chance you have a copy of CDMA WS 2.7 around that you could drop the NVitems from or am I going to have to edit the file to be 2.7 compatible? I guess its not TOO big of an issue, but 9000+ items is hilariously fun :P

save your self some trouble and find someone with a copy of workshop u can use or a phone store u can give the nv's to and have them load them for u,if u edit them they will not work, and if u decide to edit them do it from a copy of them bcause you will need the original at some point. but take some good advice...dont edit them if u want them to work.

Gotcha! I think I figured it out though, and it seemed to have taken hold. So Im gonna redo it again.

Question though - with the palm pre - does the WebOS version and replacing the NVitems have any correlation? I mean, when I edited the NVitems the first time, the values were from 1.0.3, and then when I jacked them up, they were from 1.4.5. So does it matter what version of webOS its from? or...?

well the address's from version to version should be the same if you are comparing the same carriers phone (sprint pre to sprint pre)

Xaeonis

Gotcha. I see I see. Well, I was able to import the address, but Im still having issues getting everything back to stock. The phone is still reporting the wrong information (that shall not be named) and I cannot fix it in QXDM. The NV items are read only, and even when I replace them using CDMA WS, they dont stick. Which Im having trouble understanding. Is there a way to UNLOCK the NV items for writing? I cant figure out how...

Okay so, I'm about to try this nonsense.

I have a sprint palm pre from a while ago, I have not had sprint service in over a year, it has just been sitting in a box. I want to use Cricket for the time being, so I need to unlock my palm pre.

[Only registered and activated users can see links] this is the guide I'm going off of. It says you need to unlock the phone first?

sorry if I am hi-jacking this thread, I just don't want to run into the same problems you did
