Sprint said today that it will combine how it runs its three separate networks -- CDMA, iDEN, and WiMax (and eventually LTE), onto a single platform by taking advantage of multimode 3G and 4G base stations. The multimode stations, which Sprint had previously said it would deploy, will be able to handle all Sprint's networks from a single cell tower. These base stations will also be able to support multiple network frequencies, such as 800MHz, 1600MHz, 1900MHz, and 2.6GHz. Sprint said the multi-mode base stations are the core part of the company's Network Vision plan.
