Apple today announced that founder and long-time CEO Steve Jobs is resigning from his post at the helm of the company and will be replaced by Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook. Steve Jobs will serve as Chairman of the Board, and Tim Cook has been added to the board. The change is effective immediately. In a prepared statement, Art Levinson, a member of Apple's board, said, "Steve's extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its position as the world's most innovative and valuable technology company. Steve has made countless contributions to Apple's success, and he has attracted and inspired Apple's immensely creative employees and world class executive team. In his new role as Chairman of the Board, Steve will continue to serve Apple with his unique insights, creativity and inspiration." No reason for the change in leadership was given, but Jobs has been on a leave of absence since early this year due to poor health. Jobs took a similar leave of absence in 2009.
