First download these fastboot drivers and install them on your PC then reboot.
[Only registered and activated users can see links]

Then download revolutionary [Only registered and activated users can see links]
at which point you will get a pop up window requesting which OS and phone you are using.Leave this window open because you will soon need to enter your serial # there.

Extract revolutionary to a folder like c:\revolutionary
Hook up your HTC phone with USB debugging enabled.
Bring up a command prompt in windows...Click on Start Then Run and type CMD
then enter.
then cd c:\revolutionary if thats the directory you extracted it to
type revolutionary then hit enter
It should see your device and give you the serial number and ask you for the key
Go back to the popup window and enter your serial # and it will then give you the key
to enter...
Enter that key in revolutionary in your cmd prompt and the program will run.

It should take about 1 minute to run and then you will see your device reboot into Hboot menu and will still have S-On.

Then it will reboot again into Hboot and you will have S-off ...It will also create a recovery partition on your phone.

Once all of it is done you will then have S-off but not technically root yet..

If you want ROOT also:
goto this link [Only registered and activated users can see links]
and download su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip

Put that file on the root of your microsd card by whatever means you use.
Power off phone with microsd card contaning the file in the phone.
Boot into Hboot by holding VOL+DWN and then hold power button for 1 sec..
the phone should boot into Hboot ...scroll dwn to restore by using VOL DWN then hit power to select recovery.

Once in recovery choose Install zip from sd card scroll the the su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip and select it with pwr button then scroll to yes install it and hit power to select it...after its done flashing tell it to reboot the phone and now your phone is rooted.

I hope this clears up any confusion,,I thought it was pretty self explanitory but here is the help you need :)

hey. It worked awsome for me! BUT When I get to the recovery part where I need to flash the zip file. It tells me the zip file is a bad image. What can I do to fix this? Could I just install the Superuser app from the market?

Thanks,
Mike

EDIT: Figured it out. For some off reason the file has to be renamed to something shorter. After that it worked fine. Thank you SO MUCH!!!!!

Yes, those are the versions I have, and it works! Make sure you download from the revolutionary.io (pre4) web site though. The one linked above (pre3) doesn't work.

When I downloaded the pre3 version above, and tried using the keygen from the revolutionary site, for some reason or another, the pre3 won't accept the key. I then downloaded the pre4 version on the same revolutionary site and everything worked for me. YMMV.

If some of you are having problems with the key being accepted, try typing it in. Some people are having problems with copy and paste, and remember they are case sensitive.

I think it may be a problem with yours. Mine works fine. The only problem i have is deciding which rom to flash.

Mine works fine, too.

Am using Sprint Lovers ROM. Looks just like the original ROM. Duh! :)

Sounds like your using an AOSP ROM you may want to go back to stock and do what you need to provision your phone then switch your ROM to CM(*) or whatever AOSP ROM you would like to use

either use the stock rom or Cyanogen, which both have stock dialers.

I already had S-OFF on my new/used EVO but I suspected it wasn't good for much and I had no recovery so I went through all the Revolutionary motions and got success on the second try. First time I typed my s/n wrong by adding the extra spaces and characters at the end just like in my battery compartment. Oops. First attempt to open revolutionary at the cmd prompt by just clicking the .exe didn't work so I went through start/run. Then I found out I was being failed for having HTC Sync running so I uninstalled it for the time being. When my beta key failed after 3 tries I realized it was the s/n so I deleted and re-downloaded and I made it around on the second lap. All fine till trying to mount the SD card in recovery mode. It would not mount through the USB for some reason. So I put the card in a reader and after formatting it, put the root file on it. I then left the card out while doing a reset of the whole phone. All is good now and ready for next steps. Thanks to Scuba and all for the guidance. Much appreciation for the Revolutionary crew.
