Update on cricket iphone text message problem

ok most of you know about the problems with cricket iphone incomming and outgoing text messaging...

i was approched by the crickets engineering dept. last week to "put our heads together" and try and get a solution for this problem.

i was asked not to be specific with details of names or pesonal info,so i wont.

but have come to the conclusion that it is a problem not with cricket,but with phone its self,and the lack of ability to deal with IA5 encoding (international alphabet) very similar to the default 7 bit gsm alphabet,and also ASCII,and also possible issues with the way the phone is programmed to handle the sms because of the difference in logging for facetime,which uses not only data,but sms also.

i was sent a dump or a trace of a sms sent from a pocketpcs to cricket viphone that shows the proof that what we suspected was in fact true.the phone you will see acknowledges the receiving of the sms,but is unable to deal with the IA5 encoding and then reports, dumps and parses leaving the user not knowing they ever got a message.

also the engineering dept just informed me that cricket to cricket doesn't work if the receiver is an iPhone being served by Sprint. Sprint errors the message saying it is missing a mandatory parameter. Doesn't happen with the android as the receiver.

all messages comming in from intercarriers come to cricket as an IA5 ITU-T T.50 encoded message.which is the common form of encoding

Cricket to Cricket uses 7-bit ASCII. Looks like the iPhone is capable of presenting the ASCII-7 bit encoding scheme and that's why Cricket to Cricket SMS works.

so the problem i am having is due to the phone not being able to translate the message from the sender? i understand that some people with iphone on cricket are able to receive messages from all networks, why would others not be able to receive them as well?

others are not recieving all sms,if you are hearing that,its probly bull.but we are working on alot with this phone still.there will be a fix available in the near future.

the guy at cricket told me that when they flash it in the stores they fix the problem of not receiving text from all carriers. the guy i bought my phone from told me he had messages from other carriers but i had to reset the phone and reflash.

why do you keep saying that? i have 32000.prl and have used it a bunch.is the copy you have corrupt or something? i believe we have 32000.prl posted in the prl thread,but really i have never had a problem with it.sometimes they will stop using prls or change something in the sys,or the switch that will make prl's stop working,but that is only for the old,old prl's. i know guy's that still use 1039---and man that is an old, simple prl,but still works. i am curious why your saying that, i am gonna try it tomorrow on a iphone and see,but please explain why your saying it is corrupt.

prl files may corrupt on a single pc,but tat doesnt mean when they corrupt on one pc they somehow corrupt on all pc's,you just gotta get a new copy if yer's is bad.

well with these new prls that are coming these companies are monitoring them quite heavily, [ (corrupted) may be a strong word, my bad for using that word ]. n when traffic picks up beyond the normal they do the sweep n knock everyone off.. the reasoning behind the 30000.prl n lower is the fact that the CORPORATE eyes arnt to busy to look n know thats not to big of a concern to them. (in therory) now u can ask why would they spend more money on something that is out of date when there wanting to move forward with bigger n better prls. just saying...oh by the way what sercurity is apple using i might have a lead...

Just had my verizon Iphone 4 flashed to cricket its running the 4.2.9 firmware, The first text I sent out was to a friend on verizon, he texted me back and I got it, next text was to a friend on AT&T he received the text and replied but I never got it, since the the only text I get now is the cricket to cricket ones just thought it was weird how the first one went through and then they stopped working. any word on a jailbreak for the 4.2.9 or am I screwed on that one?

how to get it working is to make the phone understand IA5.(not easy)

Rich if it was possible to write to the NV items, then we can actually have it receive texts in a different matter most phones have this ability and its a standard nv item the problem is changing that nv item I have fully tested this on many devices including the palm devices.

Yep akey and comm center patch work great. Just started editing carrier bundle ..plst whichever one my phone is using cant remember if it was zeppelin or 300 anyway I put the cricket mms servlet in with iFile and changed a few other things like carrier name. I texted my bud on Verizon and he got the text he text me back but i didnt receive it. I had tried before to text him and he wouldn't get it. Do u think i just got lucky. My classes at college are slowing down some so now I got time to put into this crap. Time to start logging changes etc. Doubt ill get where Rich is but no matter I love this sh*t!!!!

ok peeps,some good news on the sms prob with cricket.

lab testing will be conducted the first of next week to implement ascii7 text encoding (which will correct the problem) as alot of u know i have been working with crickets engineering dept to get this corrected and have since made good progress a new friend in that dept. together we identified the problem and have been working together for the solution.we were talking about this a couple days ago and,well, i will just copy the last email i recieved from him yesterday.

"Hi Rich

We should be lab testing the ascii7 encoding after thanksgiving. Roll out likely won't be until after new year. If lab testing proves easy and safe I will push to do this in December (needs VP approval because of a network freeze that is imposed each year at this time) "

so there is finally some light here.with a little luck sms will be 100% from other cariers to cricket in december,so 3 or 4 more weeks guy's.

there will be nothing anyone will need to do to implement this on there phones,it will just start working.

i will announce the exact day a few days before we make the change.

here is an update on the sms fix for iphone 4 on cricket,i know we were saying this was gonna be fixed by december,but it just didnt happen,the reason is,well there are a few reason's such as, holidays,loosing of dept heads and shift in the corporate ladder that issue caused,and the biggest issue is that to implement this "fix" so everyone can have it free of charge and without doing anything to there phone is that it had to go thru high level permissions such as vp of cricket and it just simply takes time to get that done,i mean after all we are talking about changing the way the entire network deals with sms,but this will fix sms with not only iphone,but with the palm's as well and a few other phones that had issues with 7 bit encoding,so alot of us will benefit from this without having to do anything,it will just start working.

Hi Rick. We've successfully tested the intercarrier iphone SMS fix in the lab. The team is discussing production rollout and likely we will make the change the week after that. We should have fully operational SMS on cricket iPhones by the end of January. i am happy this issue will finally be put to rest.

anyway,this timeline not written in stone and things change in the corporate world,but it looks like this will be done this month(january)
so please be a little more patient people and dont send me tons of pm's asking what day or for other info about it,i simply cant answer all pm's and questions.

this may not be soon enough for you,but the intercarrier sms repair is slated to be implemented this wed night into thursday morning.

if you read thru this thread i explane it.but, the fix will be implemented thru crickets switch,meaning that you wont have to do anything to make it work.cricket will handle the conversion then send the compatable data to your iphone converting the data from 8 bit to 7 bit and that is what iphone needs to be able to handle the message.many peeps are responsible for the "fix",mostly crickets engineering and sms teams, it took alot of people get this done as well as vice president approval,that is why it has taken so long,we have know since the begining and lab testing proved that the problem was iphones lack of ability to deal with 8 bit encoding.

what whitey is saying is that the image you see is the same as the one you cant,i cant delete the one that doesnt show for now due to some problems,but rest assured your not missing anything,it is just an error.

this is the image on my phone and consists of about 10 diff images to make one,and is not somthing that you can just put on your phone without some doing,at least thru the filesys.however there is an app for that (of course) i cant remember the name but it works like fake carrier only allows you to use carrier logo animations,so just search for it,it shouldnt be to hard to find,although i do not know if its been updated to 5x.

ive been meaning to post a comcenter patch and guide for the green k logo i use ive just been to bizzy as of late.[Only registered and activated users can see links]

yes it is working,and for the model well it kinda depends on the plan you got it on.if its 35 or 45 dollar list it as v3c if its the android plan use a android prl and list it as m6000 or m860.

Love having text on my iPhone 4 on 5.0.1 sometimes I can get mms working on the 35 plan. O and for any one that can't get texting *228 then reboot the phone and it sould work.

Any updates for cricket iPhone having web. And I won't to le others no if your cant get SMS working call *228 or *22804 then reboot phone. That sould make it work.
