Just three weeks after Apple knocked it out of the park with its-Arm-based M1 chip (https://www.macworld.com/article/3598017/apple-m1-macs-what-you-need-to-know-about-buying-new-apple-silicon-macs.html), you might have thought Qualcomm would have something to say about its own Arm chips for PCs at its yearly Snapdragon Tech Summit. It didn’t. The company’s silence suggests that the refreshed Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G (https://www.pcworld.com/article/3573912/qualcomm-announces-snapdragon-8cx-gen-2-5g-processor-for-windows-on-arm.html) announced in September is not going to swing for the fences itself.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Compute processors are the foundation for Windows on Arm.-The company entered the market aggressively in 2018, shipping the Snapdragon 835 for PCs like the-Asus NovaGo (https://www.pcworld.com/article/3268084/asus-novago-review.html)-in April and the Snapdragon 850 in the-Galaxy Book 2 (https://www.pcworld.com/article/3323059/samsung-electronics/samsung-galaxy-book-2-tablet-hands-on-performance-takes-a-backseat-to-battery-life.html)-tablet in October, then introducing the Snapdragon 8cx (https://www.pcworld.com/article/3325329/qualcomms-snapdragon-8cx-for-pcs-aims-to-overcome-the-performance-gap.html)-in December.-
