T-Mobile gave an update on its 5G rollout today, including plans to launch 5G NR SA (Standalone) technology later this quarter (by the end of September at the latest). All current 5G deployments use NSA (Non-Standalone) technology, which relies on 4G as the network backbone. 5G SA technology does not rely on 4G. According to T-Mobile, this will enable the company to "expand our coverage and bring with it improved latency and faster uploads". T-Mobile also announced the launch of new 5G coverage in "Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Richmond, Va., Topeka, Kan., Sussex County, Del., and coming soon in Buffalo, N.Y." The company also announced the launch of faster 5G service in the 2.5 GHz frequency band in Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles.
