Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 675 system-on-a-chip, a replacement for the 670. Qualcomm says the 675 focuses on delivering gains in gaming, AI, and camera performance. On the gaming front, Qualcomm claims the 675 handles high frame rates for smoother performance. Together with game developers, Qualcomm optimized the 675 for the Unity, Unreal, Messiah, and NeoX gaming engines. The 675 also supports the Vulkan, OpenGL 3.2, OpenCL, and Snapdragon profiler APIs. The Snapdragon 675 relies on the Qualcomm Spectra 200 ISP for processing image and video information. It enables cameras to better handle low-light conditions, capture longer slow-motion video, and rely on AI for scene detection and automatic adjustments. The hardware can handle up to a three-camera configuration, such as wide, normal, and telephoto setups. Other capabilities include portrait/bokeh, 3D face unlock, and better selfies. The combined Kryo CPU, Adreno GPU, and Hexagon DSP work together to boost artificial intelligence operations. Qualcomm says the 675 shows a 50% improvement when compared to the 670 in speed and efficiency. The multi-core AI engine can learn users' voices and optimize battery life over time. Other features of the Snapdragon 675 include the Snapdragon X12 modem with 3-channel carrier aggregation and LTE downloads up to 600 Mbps. The mobile platform supports Quick Charge 4+, as well as Qualcomm's Aqstic and aptX audio technologies. The Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform is available to hardware makers today and is expected to debut in consumer devices during the first quarter of 2019.
