Facebook today introduced what it calls Privacy Basics, a series of tools to help people better manage their privacy on the social network. Privacy Basics features 32 interactive guides available in 44 languages that walk users through the network's various settings and controls for fine-tuning who sees what. "People share their most valued moments on Facebook, and we want to make tips and tools clear and accessible whenever you need them. Privacy Basics gives you tips for things like securing your account, understanding who can see posts, and knowing what your profile looks like to others," said the company in a statement. The Privacy Basics tutorials are posted on Facebook's desktop web site. In addition to Privacy Basics, Facebook recommends users walk through its Privacy Checkup tool to review their current settings, create groups for more selective post sharing, and use the login approvals security tool to help safeguard against unauthorized logins on mobile devices. Also this week, Facebook made updates to its Trending news section in order to help combat fake news. According to Facebook, trending topics will now include the publisher headline, and the company is making use of an improved system to see what is truly trending amongst users. Most importantly, trending topics will no longer be catered to individual users. Instead, all users in the same region will see the same trending stories. Facebook believes these efforts will improve the quality and veracity of trending news stories.
