If your havign problem rooting your hero with unrevoked, check your build number if it is 2.27.654.6 you will have to download this file and downgrade it .5

Is this a 2.1 stock root? Or has 2.2 been released for the Hero?

This is just a stock rom 2.1, if the build is 2.27.654.6 unrevoked will not work, you will need to downgrade it to 2.27.654.5 in order to use unrevoked.
