As far as i know, only the 3g on 4.0.2 can be jail broken and unlocked.

the downgrade will work on the 3G only, and they would of had to had it jail broken before and hit the "make my life easier" button on Cyida. But recently I tried to upgrade a 3GS from 3.0.1 to a 4.0.1 and it woudlnt' let me, it made me upgrade to 4.0.2. I think theyre changing things up

You can change to any firmware you want, but first you have to download a copy of the firmware you choose. Then put your Iphone into DFU mode and connect to Itunes. when it prompts you to restore, hold down shift, and click on restore. It will open a window for you to browse through and select the firmware you downloaded.

Most of the time, sometimes this will not work and I am not sure why.

REAL solution for 3Gs Downgrade from iOS 4.02!

I have seen many people asking for 3Gs Downgrade when its already on iOS 4.02.

IF YOU HAVE NOT SAVED YOUR SHSH.

1- you'll need this TinyUmbrella (download at bottom of page)

2- Open up Tiny Umbrella -> click Advanced Options -> Select 3Gs 4.01 -> Cydia and Click SAve My SHSH

It will give a message saying " Successfully SAVED " something like this from memory.

With BOTH Already saved or JUST SAVED, USE THIS STEP TO RESTORE BACK TO iOS 4.01

3- Start TinyTSS Server.

4-iTunes - Back up you Data (if needed) -> then put iPhone in Recovery Mode (you should know how by now, if not use the search button) and Shift/Option, Click RESTORE and Select "iPhone2,1_4.0.1_8A306_Restore.ipsw"

Just relax and wait for iTunes to finish,

and Start you JB and Unlock.

*got this from mobilefiles.us*

(Don't know if it works or if it will work on the 4g running 4.0.2, have not tried it yet. Feedback please)

From what i understand, this will not work, because tinyumbrella is suppose to save your shsh which will let you downgrade, but if you have not saved your shsh, tinyumbrella will do you no good
