Netflix subscribers can opt to stream video only over WiFi, or at varying degrees of quality to limit data consumption. For example, the "low" setting says it offers about 4 hours of viewing per 1 GB of mobile data, while the "medium" setting cuts that to 2 hours of viewing, and the "high" setting cuts that further to 1 hour of viewing per 1 GB. An unlimited options is available, too, but Netflix strongly recommends subscribers select that option only if they're on unlimited data plans. By default, the app is set to "auto," which delivers around 3 hours of viewing per 1 GB. Netflix recently came under fire after AT&T and Verizon discovered the service was throttling the speeds of its customers, and not the customers of Sprint and T-Mobile. Netflix is free to download from the Google Play Store and iTunes App Store, but the service costs $10 per month and up.
