ZTE might be prepping a sequel for its Axon Phone flagship

However, it looks like the company might have a sequel up its sleeve, if specifications found on GFXBench are any indication. According to the information listed on the benchmark test, the ZTE A2017-smartphone looks to pack a 5.5-inch, 2,560 x 1,440 resolution display with an 8-megapixel camera sitting above it. Turn the phone around and you’ll find a 21MP shooter capable of 4K video recording.-Thankfully, Android 6.0.1 will come pre-installed, though-if the original Axon-Phone is any indication,-expect ZTE to apply a light skin over the Android build. Related: Qualcomm, Intel, and others may soon be banned from supplying components to ZTE Elsewhere, the 2.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 paired with 4GB of RAM look to power this unknown ZTE handset.-We’ll see if that remains the case when the smartphone goes on sale, since ZTE-will need to apply for an export license to get the burly processor due to allegations over the company intending to-resell equipment to Iran, seen as a no-no in today’s political climate. Moving on, 51GB out of the 64GB of native storage will be available for use. Finally, the A2017 includes your standard array of sensors and wireless connectivity options, including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and NFC, among others. Because of the specifications listed on GFXBench, we have a hunch the A2017 will be the sequel to last year’s Axon Phone, which is a powerful smartphone in its own right. What really separated the Axon Phone from other flagship-level smartphones was its initial $450 price tag, which has since gone down to the $200-$300 range, depending on which version you pick up. It shouldn’t be surprising to see such pricing applied to the sequel, since ZTE looks to carve out a segment of the U.S. smartphone market by pushing out flagship-level handsets at aggressive price points, a strategy used by the OnePluses and the Xiaomis of the world. Even so,-ZTE has yet to officially unveil the A2017, so take all of this with a grain of salt. We have reached out to ZTE for comment and will update accordingly.
