A senior director at Motorola shared the sad news about the Verizon-exclusive smartphones in a Google+ post on Friday. “We apologize that we will not be upgrading DROID Ultra/Mini/Maxx to Android Lollipop, as we had hoped,” wrote David Schuster, senior director at Motorola Mobility. To make amends, the Lenovo brand-is letting current owners register for special pricing on a Droid Turbo 2 ($524, down from $624) or a Droid Maxx 2 ($334, down from $384). The apology offer expires Thursday, May 19, and must be redeemed by Thursday, June 2. The devices each received updates for about a year, and when Google rolled out Android Lollipop, Motorola said the phones would be updated to the latest version of Android. The company last reiterated its promise of Lollipop to the three smartphones in January 2015, according to Droid Life. This isn’t the first time Motorola is receiving some attention for withholding upgrades for its smartphones. In October, the company shared a list of its phones that it would upgrade to Android Marshmallow. Not included on that list was the AT&T and Verizon 2014 Moto X models, along with the 2015 Moto E.
