U.S. Cellular CFO Steven Campbell said it has an adequate supply of spectrum and therefore doesn't think it will be necessary to participate in the upcoming 600MHz auction. "We want to make sure that we have low-band and mid-band spectrum in every one of our markets," said Campbell to investors this week, but added, "we think we have adequate capacity" for the time being. Campbell didn't rule out participating entirely. He indicated the company would buy spectrum only if the price is right. AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon are all expected to bid for spectrum, though Sprint has said it will not. U.S. Cellular also said it has successfully tested VoLTE in three markets and expects to launch the improved voice service in at least one market later this year.
