It’s the highest-grossing crowdfunded game ever, one of the prettiest PC games ever made – as well as one of the most ambitious – but it has thus far not received-the best virtual reality-support. Back before the original Oculus DK1 even began shipping, Star Citizen ‘s developers promised-robust-VR integration. That may finally arrive this year. Lead developer-Chris Roberts announced the change during an end-of-year livestream, saying-that there were a lot of updates for VR that Cloud Imperium needed to implement into Star Citizen , but that it had been busy with the Alpha 2.0 and 2.1 updates most recently. However in the year ahead, he said that they would be pushing to get “the guys in Frankfurt,” to work on better VR implementation (via-RoadToVR). While a few chaps in a certain city might not sound like much, Roberts’ explained that those very people were the ones who helped develop some of the early VR efforts at Crytek, laying-the foundation for-more recent, notable VR games-like The Climb -and Robinson: The Journey . Related:- Star Citizen reaches $100 million and gets FPS mode with Alpha 2.0 update Roberts also insisted that Star Citizen would support all major virtual reality headsets – which for now means the Oculus Rift CV1 and the HTC Vive – but there are probably some more not too far away. With more than $100 million in crowdfunding though, nobody is worried that Star Citizen won’t have the resources or manpower not to deliver on this promise. Some-may be a little concerned about-the game’s slipping release date, however. Originally pitched to be released at the tail end of 2014, more than a year later-we’re still not within sight-of-a full release. Of course there have been many modules and the game is creeping ever closer to its finished state, but are you guys happy with extra developments taking up more of Cloud Imperium’s time?
