Netgear brings powerline adapters, range extenders, and a modem/router to CES 2016

Network is the glue that holds the entire tech world together, and Netgear is continuing to vie for a top spot with its pile of new products for CES 2016. At the top of the Netgear lineup of new products, the Nighthawk X4S AC2600 (pictured above) packs in every possible performance feature, and then some. The device supports Wave 2 Wi-Fi, with MU-MIMO, 160MHz bandwidth, and quad-stream architecture for 2.4GHz and 5GHz broadcasting. The Nighthawk X4S AC2600 is the perfect router for gamers or media lovers and is available now for $270. Related: Netgear is releasing the Nighthawk X8, a Wi-Fi router supporting up to 5.3Gbps Next-up, the AC1600 doesn’t just bring 802.11ac Wi-Fi to more homes, it’s also a fully functional modem, saving you money on rental fees, space, and energy. It doesn’t skimp on performance either, with download speeds up to 640Mbps, as well as Wi-Fi speeds reaching 1.6Gbps. For amenities, the AC1600 packs in USB for networked file access, and Gigabit ethernet. No exact release date yet, but Netgear says it will be available soon for just $170. But not every device Netgear is bringing to CES is a traditional router or modem. The new Powerline WiFi 1000 adapter kit uses your home’s existing electrical outlets to run Gigabit Ethernet and then rebroadcasts that signal to a part of the house that’s lacking proper wireless network coverage. It’s an easy solution, especially for older homes where Wi-Fi signals tend to suffer. The kit, which includes the base link for the router and the Wi-Fi broadcaster, is already available for just $120. But there’s room for more chutzpah in that market, and Netgear is playing to that with the AC1900 and Nighthawk X4 AC2200 WiFi range extenders. Simply plug either device in within range of your existing network, configure it, and it will extend the broadcasting coverage of your old router. While the Ac1900 supports up to 1.9Gbps, the Nighthawk X4 AC2200 supports up to 2.2Gbps transfer speeds, as well as MU-MIMO. The two devices are already available-and cost $140 for the AC1900, or $170 for the AC2200. Finally, Netgear is rounding out its new offerings with the Arlo Q 1080p HD security camera. The detailed sensor is perfect for catching anyone in the act, and it even packs in features like audio recording, night vision, and two-way communication. Along with the camera, Netgear includes cloud storage for up to seven days of recorded footage, with iOS and Android support. It’s equipped with dual-band Wi-Fi for communication, so every time the motion detection is set off, it uploads that-data. The Arlo Q is available now for $220.
