Facebook is currently testing a similar feature in its Messenger app, allowing you to send messages that later disappear. If you’re using Facebook Messenger in France, you can tap an hourglass icon in the app to turn the feature on. Tap it again and the feature is off. Although you’ll still be able to see the text box where the message first appeared, there won’t be any content to view. Related :-You can now use Messenger without a Facebook account According to Alex Kantrowitz at BuzzFeed, the new feature allows you to choose to have your messages disappear an hour after sending them. In a statement from a Facebook spokeswoman, “Starting today, we’re conducting a small test in France of a feature that allows people to send messages that disappear an hour after they’re sent. Disappearing messages gives people another fun option to choose from when they communicate on Messenger. We look forward to hearing people’s feedback as they give it a try.” The feature is a move that directly takes aim at Snapchat, one of the platform’s biggest competitors. While Snapchat claims only a tenth of the user base Facebook claims, the chat application is quickly closing in on Facebook with over 6 billion video views daily. The Facebook Messenger feature is currently being tested for iOS and Android users, but-may or may not become available outside of France. Facebook Messenger users-who like the Snapchat attribute-might find this a welcome addition. If it gets rolled out, it-would follow a number of recent Messenger updates, including the ability to send video and GIF-replies, send payments, as well as plans to include a virtual assistant and purchase tracking capabilities.
