The NFC Forum today provided an update to the core NFC specification. The update includes two new specifications and two new candidate specifications. The RTD Device Information 1.0 spec helps devices better identify one another and the NFC Analog Technical Specification 1.1 makes improvements to the analog characteristics of the RF interface. The NFC Logical Link Control Protocol Candidate Specification 1.3 provides greater security in peer-to-peer messaging. Last the NFC Controller Interface Candidate Specification 2.0 adds new RF interface extensions for optimized and scalable P2P and memory tag communication. This allows NFC devices to communicate with a broader range of devices and tags. The NFC Forum said the technical details can be downloaded from its web site. The candidate specs will remain will remain candidates pending feedback from Forum members and other standards organizations. NFC radios are often used in phones to initiate Bluetooth pairing or conduct mobile payment transactions.
