How many people actually read forum rules? Not just here but in general when you join a forum do you read the rules?

i glance at them if they to long i out that page quick. Also depends on the reason if I just want a link them No. lol If I am not going to be a active productive poster no. If I am never going back to the site no. I am on 50 forums but only active on 8.

I don't see any reason to read the forum rules. I just think using a little bit of common sense goes a long way. I mean seriously, if you can't know that you don't ask a question off topic in a thread then you don't have it in you to ever flash a phone.

i read them because based on the behavior ive seen on other forums, I was just curious to see what the ruleage was all about but Dank is right. They are for the ignoramous who lacks common sense.

When we came up with Gurus, one of the main points was to make the rules as simple as possible. And I think we have done that to create a forum that is friendly for members as well as fair.

This is one of the few forums that won't rake someone over the coals for not searching. I know of some forums that have members just chew someone out for not searching and not even bother to help them. And when you look at their posts, you notice about a quarter of their posts are chewing someone out for not searching and the rest are posts begging for help. I wouldn't call that a very helpful member.

My rule of thumb is I ask them to search if it is a pretty basic question but I also lead them in the right direction.

I must be the only geek to read them. Even then I still forget! I often go back like they are bible scriptures! Lol, ummm not so much!
