I was curious to how accurate the coverage area map on Cricket's website was??

My reason for asking is where I am located I have a Cricket market so I know service is not an issue. My mom lives in Kentucky and is interested in Cricket service, but she does not have a Cricket market or store for her area.

By looking at the map though there is coverage for Cricket in her area. The map is solid green in most places.

Thanks to anyone who can provide insight my end goal would be to get her a phone in my market and send it to her once the phone is activated

Any map from a carrier will be an approximation. There will never be a guarantee of service because there are many factors that go into determining the signal strength that your phone receives (Buildings, Electrical Lines, Landscaping features, Battery Life settings, etc). According to Cricket's map, Dark Green is nationwide coverage and Light green is Roaming. I would assume that within the Dark Green colors, you'll have roaming if you are in an area of low signal. I do not know if it's free roaming or not since I'm not a Cricket user.

All you can really do is try it. Grab a cheapy prepaid and mail it over there and see if it works. She may not be able to receive a Local number in her area if there isn't a "Cricket Market" in the area even if the area is colored Dark Green. This is because the Dark Green markets are Unlimited Nationwide Roaming areas (Home area's).

BTW: You really should wait a day (24 hours) or so before bumping your thread. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I would be better suited to answer this question.

The biggest problem she will face will be the lack of local number if she's not in K market. She also will only have talk/text no mms or wap.

If those aren't issues for her, then investigate the coverage. My rule is if there's more cows than people, then coverage is likely to be spotty. If she's in a city, she should be good as she will be hitting Sprint or Verizon towers.

Like mentioned above sending her a cheap phone to test would answer all your questions. Cricket has a promotion going that you can activate a Never Been Cricket phone for $15 and get a month free. So find a phone, flash it, activate it for $15 and let her try it.

i live in the city and i get full signal except when im on the outskirts, then driving is a hassle when i cant talk on the phone, otherwise i would test it out and see how gud the coverage is wher she's at.
