Google Maps Earns Material Design and Gains New Tools

Google today revealed a major redesign of its mobile maps app for both the Android and iOS platforms. The app adopts Google's Material Design, which is the basis of Android 5.0 Lollipop's look and feel. This means bright colors and flatter, bolder icons. In addition to the new design, Google Maps has new hooks for making restaurant reservations through Open Table or booking Uber rides, complete with rates and arrival times. Google also created new info cards for locations that are richer in detail and imagery. Google Maps is free to download from the Google Play Store and iTunes App Store.
