The Transportation Security Administration said yesterday that some passengers on foreign flights into the United States may be asked to turn on cell phones and electronic devices to show they’re not explosives. In a short announcement the TSA said powerless devices will not be allowed on airplanes. One Homeland Security officer told CNN-these changes are the result of new intelligence that suggests terror groups may be trying to build “new types of improvised explosives that are harder to detect.” While the TSA increases security measures, it’s worth remembering that many people, including Secretary of State John Kerry, believe that poverty is a root cause of terrorism.
