The Electronic Frontier Foundation has ported its HTTPS Everywhere product to Firefox for Android devices. HTTPS Everywhere, which was previously only available to desktop machines, is an extension that encrypts communications between devices and web sites. The EFF claims HTTPS Everywhere will offer mobile device owners a higher level of security by switching insecure HTTP connections to secure HTTPS connections. Web sites that might otherwise have been transmitted openly in HTTP will be encrypted to block third parties, ISPs, and others from spying on or interfering with the device owner. HTTPS Everywhere is free to download from the EFF's web site. The EFF didn't say if or when it might offer HTTPS Everywhere to other Android browsers, but it did say that it cannot offer HTTPS Everywhere to Firefox for the iPhone.
