The smartphone landscape in the United States last quarter paints a familiar picture, according to newly released Nielsen data: the winners — namely Apple and Samsung — kept winning while the rest of the pack continued to fight for scraps. Nielsen’s U.S. smartphone market share report for Q2 2013 shows Apple’s lead narrowing as its market share jumped to 40% from 34% in the year-ago quarter. Over the same period of time, Samsung increased its smartphone market share from 17.5% in Q2 2012 to 24.7% last quarter (that figure includes Android and Windows Phone devices). HTC was the No.3 vendor in the U.S. according to the firm with a 9.4% share, edging out Motorola at 9% and LG at 7%.
